Fifth Grade in the Library

Fifth grade will continue to develop research skills gaining practice using print and online resources to complete research in connection with the science and social studies curriculum.  Students will expand their understanding of advanced search strategies, citing resources, power keyword searches etc. Students will explore historical fiction and Newbery Award winning titles. 

Literature Skills

Students will:

  • Increase recognition and identification of different genres of literature.
  • Identify and describe key components of historical fiction.
  • Select appropriate historical fiction resources based on personal interests and curriculum needs.
  • Define and recognize Newbery and other award winning literature.
  • Extend their knowledge base of a variety of authors.

 

Research & Information Literacy Skills

Students will:

  • Expand the use of print and on-line resources.     
  • Use Boolean and keyword search strategies to locate materials and information.
  • Demonstrate safe, responsible, and appropriate use of Internet resources.
  • Cite sources used in research with the use of citation help technologies.
  • Demonstrate understanding of and follow established procedures regarding copyright, plagiarism, and AUP.    
  • Demonstrate expanded understanding of the research process.
  • Create informational projects utilizing a variety of resources.
